The filaments of the high tenacity yarn ideally have a cross-section consisting of five to eight vertices, maybe with an indentation between the vertices. The filaments have a perfect star-shaped cross-section. The optimum high tenacity yarn has a tenacity of 60–85 cN/tex, a lengthening at break of 15%–35%, a hot-air shrinking of 4%–10%, and a stretch recovery of 250–400 cN/tex. Additionally, High Tenacity yarn is available in a variety of shrinkage characteristics, including conventional shrinkage, low shrinkage, and ultra-low shrinkage, depending on the intended end-use. The yarn’s high tenacity makes it ideal for use in the production of industrial textiles, particularly airbag materials.
